Top talent is the hardest group to manage
Wise counsel Angela. Top performers are demanding of leaders. That said they may not stay with us for very long either, regardless of how good a manager we are. If they are highly ambitious they will likely progress to another role (but not all top performers have high ambitions either). What I have found helps the most is to just talk to your people openly - know their direction, aspirations, how much guidance they want or need from you and what specifically you can do to help. This works with performers at all levels. And if you can actually deliver what they need, trust goes up, and some of those low- and middle- folks start to improve, and the folks at the top actually stay longer💪.
